Service Description

Non-invasive prenatal paternity (NIPP) testing is a DNA test performed during pregnancy to determine the biological father of an unborn child. This test is called "non-invasive" because it involves a simple blood draw from the pregnant mother and a cheek swab from the alleged father(s), rather than more invasive procedures like amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS). Samples are analyzed in a certified laboratory. This test can be performed as early as the 7th week of pregnancy. IMPORTANT: If the mother has had a blood transfusion, sample collection must be done no earlier than one week after the transfusion. ***We cannot perform NIPP testing in the following cases: twins or multiple fetuses, in vitro fertilization, egg donation, surrogacy, related alleged fathers (unless both are willing to be tested), or cases of incest.***
